Tom Basilo to Receive "Heart of Gold" Award from Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center of Bergen County will celebrate 40 years of service to the community with a “Heart of Gold” Gala on Saturday, November 4, 2006, at the Hilton, Woodcliff Lake. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of “Heart of Gold” Awards to special honorees whose support of the Volunteer Center and dedication to volunteerism has had a significant impact on the community.
Tom Basilo, who resides with his wife Pat in Tenafly, will be one of the honorees. A Shareholder/Director of WithumSmith+Brown, Mr. Basilo is also Chairman and CEO of one of its divisions, WithumSmith+Brown Global Assurance (“WS+B GA”). WS+B GA is a division of WithumSmith+Brown, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, providing dedicated support and advanced capabilities in corporate governance, risk assessment and Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) compliance services to public and private entities in NJ metro area.
Mr. Basilo has had a diverse background as a successful businessman, entrepreneur, professor and author. His volunteer involvement in the community has complemented his business success.
Mr. Basilo served on the Volunteer Center’s Board of Directors for 16 years, and was chairperson of the Fund Development Committee. He played a key role in establishing the Bergen Bike Tour, an annual event that has raised over $500,000 for the Volunteer Center and Tomorrows Children’s Fund over the past 11 years.
“Tom Basilo is the kind of high level volunteer whose participation is critical to the success of a non-profit organization,” says Janet Sharma, Executive Director of the Volunteer Center. “His leadership has made a positive difference in our community.”
The Volunteer Center’s Heart of Gold Gala with be “black tie optional” and will feature a multi-course dinner and dancing. Tickets are $175 per person, or $1,500 for a table of 10.
