As Chairman and CEO of
WithumSmith+Brown Global Assurance, LLC (“WS+B GA”), Tom oversees
the overall direction of WS+B GA, with the mission to be recognized
as THE preferred vendor of innovative solutions for corporate
compliance and other internal audit and risk assurance services for
both public and privately-held middle-market companies. Tom's 30
plus years of diverse experience in assisting family-owned and
closely-held businesses, in a variety of industries, manage the
challenges of growth, cash flow and organizational restructuring
makes him uniquely qualified to lead WS+B GA. Tom is also an
accounting and auditing shareholder in the Morristown office of WS+B
GA's parent company, WithumSmith+Brown, P.C. (www.withum.com)
A graduate of Seton Hall University with a BA degree in accounting,
Tom spent over 25 years working for two world-class international
accounting firms (Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers) focusing
mainly on emerging and middle-market companies. He also was a member
of Ernst & Young’s New Jersey Emerging & Growth Markets Group, where
he served as the New York metro area practice leader of the CPA
Connection Alliance and as one of the leaders of the NY metro area’s
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year™ award program. Prior to
that, he spent time serving as a controller for a division of a
Fortune 500 company and was President of Basilo Associates and GBT
Consulting, Inc., advising owners and managers of emerging growth
companies on operational, managerial, succession and general
business issues, fundraising and IPOs.
Tom is the author of numerous articles relating to business issues
impacting private companies and entrepreneurs and on the impact of
Sarbanes-Oxley on middle market companies. He was a contributing
author to the tenth edition of Montgomery's Auditing and also served
on the editorial advisory board of CPA Digest. He is currently an
adjunct professor at Seton Hall University, where he teaches an
introductory graduate school course in entrepreneurial studies, a
program he helped create. He worked with several organizations
dealing with entrepreneurial issues, including the New Jersey
Technology Council, Association for Corporate Growth, Venture
Association of New Jersey, Garden State Credit Association and New
Jersey's Business Incubator program. Tom was one of the original
board members of the Stevens Institute of Technology Ventures
Incubator and was a member of the New Jersey Commission of Science
and Technology's task force reviewing incubator performance. In
addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified
Public Accountants (NJSCPA) and is a CPA in New Jersey, New York and
Connecticut.
Tom is also actively involved in the community. He serves on the
board of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, where he is chairman
of the Fund Development Committee. He has also supported the
Tomorrow’s Children Fund, the United Way and Eva’s Village. Tom was
involved in various fundraising activities for high school sports
and coached boys and girls youth sports (basketball, softball and
baseball) for 25 years. He resides in Bergen County, NJ
